The images and story of a Southern Hills Country Club Wedding

This stunning, timeless, and romantic Southern Hills Country Club wedding in Tulsa, Oklahoma was such a pleasure to capture. Matthew and Lauren handled the day with grace and ease, effortlessly moving through each moment of the day. They began at SHCC getting ready for the day with their bridal parties and parents. Over the years, I’ve come to really enjoy the calm and almost “slow” pace of wedding mornings. We like to say it’s the calm before the storm (although, my couples never have a storm). However, once the bride is ready…the day begins. The events start to flow and everyone is filled with excitement and jitters. As a Tulsa wedding photographer, I was definitely excited to finally capture a wedding at this highly esteemed country club.

Matthew and Lauren decided to do a first look. I thought this was a great choice for them since they wouldn’t have much time between the ceremony and reception for additional photos. We had just the right amount of time after the ceremony to capture family portraits and wedding party photos. Lauren even had a bit of time to get a foot rub from her Mom – that’s how you know your wedding day is going well.

After their first look, we took a few minutes to take portraits with just the two of them. The Oklahoma heat in July is no joke, so I made their comfortability a priority by not taking too long in the heat. Plus, once we got in the shade to exchange vows and gifts it seemed to be much cooler. I can’t tell you how sweet it was to watch Matthew and Lauren spend this time before the ceremony exchanging gifts, laughing with one another, and sharing privately and personally about their love for one another. I recommend taking a moment to do this even if you don’t do a first look. There aren’t typically many moments alone on the wedding day.

The ceremony approached and they headed to Holy Family Cathedral in downtown Tulsa, which has to be one of the most stunning churches in town. The Ceremony commenced and they became husband and wife, joyfully walking hand in hand down the aisle and into a trolly with their wedding party back to Southern Hills. The guests followed and the evening began. There was a lot of dancing, romantic lighting, laughter and memories shared. There was also an epic tumble of their 4 tier cake. No wedding day is perfect right? But always memorable. That’s why weddings have my heart. They are “perfectly imperfect” – John Dolan, a photographer who inspires me greatly. I hope you can see that each image in this gallery poses perfection and imperfection. Some more poised than others. Some raw emotion. But all capturing this one unique and glorious wedding day.
